The woman who taught me how to live
The woman who taught me how to live is my mama.
For International Women’s Day, I’m celebrating her, my queen, my matriarch, and the strongest woman I know.
If you have a moment, watch my latest reel from our first week in Niue together with family here.
If you know Fila Tiala, you’ll know she is full of love and her life hasn’t been without hardship. But she has always risen above. She taught me resilience, to stay positive, and to "treat people how you would like to be treated."
Next stop for us - is I'm travelling to Auckland, NZ today for Young Pacific Leaders (YPL) Conference read more here so I'll be back to my 2nd home to see mum, family and friends!
Note: Mum's designed me pacific island dresses for the YPL week; so I can't wait to share. Mum made a lot of my clothes when I was a kid (matching dresses with hats) and my ball dresses; so this feels very nostalgic.
Then we go to Bali in May, mum and I are heading to my soul sister Tarryn’s Bloom Retreat in Uluwatu.
One thing I’ve learned by slowing down lately is listening to the threads of what truly matters to me. Spending time with my mama was one of those things, including more travel together.
I even had a moment this week where I cried and thought, “I’d be so happy to die,” knowing how loved I am and how full my life has already been. My next thought was, “they better be partying at my funeral.”
And honestly… I’ve already got my funeral playlist ready.
I’m not scared of death.
I’m guess I'm more afraid of not living this life fully.
This week, parts of me have been grieving as I grow into another version of myself.
But when I reflect, I realise how full life has already been. I’ve travelled the world, worked with the most incredible clients, discovered what true love is - as I continue to fall in love with myself* (*disclaimer: a very brave journey) that now I get to hold space for others during their own transformations.
And while I continuously evolve as a human - I get to creatively create brands for clients out of pure joy *cue* latest brand FLOW88 along with other amazing brands/clients that fill my heart!
So in essence, today I feel deeply grateful for my mama, for leading the way in how I approach life. She really did pave the way in inspiring me to truly live my life and "go and do it!"
Her mama (my nana) used to say - in her Niuean voice:
“If you have a hole in your pocket, fix it and keep going.”
Simple. Wise. True.
Happy International Women’s Day to all the wonderful women.
Thank you for continuously inspiring me!
